Often people shift into an even slower brainwave state called Theta, runners often experience this, as well as those participating in other activities that become automatic and you have the ability to mentally disengage. Theta is where ideas tend to flow without judgement, it is a “Free Thinking” state. Delta is the final state is the sleep state, this is a deep state of relaxation with no dreaming, this is the slowest brain state we can enter.
